Your Vass, North Carolina, home often has its own rhythm of sounds that you get used to hearing over time. Sometimes, a discordant sound may interrupt what you usually hear. These sounds may be a sign that something is not quite right. Here are some HVAC noises you should be aware of, as they could indicate that there is an issue with your system.
Rattling Noises
A rattling noise in your outside condenser unit may be signaling that some debris has gotten inside the unit. It may be moving around, causing the noise, and could be potentially damaging the inside of the unit. A rattling noise in your inside equipment can also pinpoint an issue with your furnace.
Squealing, Scraping, or Screeching
Hearing a scraping, squealing, or screeching noise is another indicator that something is wrong with your unit. Often, squeals and screeches could be a sign that a belt inside your HVAC unit is close to breaking. There’s also the possibility that lubricated areas have gone dry, and it needs lubrication. Scraping may mean that your belts or other moving parts have moved out of position.
Whistling or Hissing
It’s normal to hear some air sounds as your HVAC system moves air throughout your home, but loud whistling or hissing sounds aren’t normal, especially if you have a newer system. These types of noises may mean you have an air leak somewhere in your ductwork. It doesn’t sound as severe as some of the other issues, but it means your home won’t be heating or cooling very efficiently. A whistling noise could indicate a refrigerant leak, which can be a more serious issue.
